Family Reunion

Today, they had quite the visitors. Mom, Dave, Memere, Wayne, Me, Phil, Little Phil, Becky, Lee, and three friends from Richards work came in and out of there today. This morning I was told that Richard gave Lee a hug and rubbed his head. He also hugged Becky. Before we arrived from church, they put Richard in a chair (dont ask me how) and he stayed in it for quite some time until he started to slide out. By the time I got there he was back in the bed. He continued the same behavoir today. He hugged everyone, poked you with his finger, and smiled. The respiratory tech came in and Richard growled his teeth. She was standing at the top of his bed where he couldnt see but he was trying so hard to move his head to see her. His eyes were looking hard for her. The funniest thing today was with Philip. He was wearing a tie and Richard kept pulling it. Eventually, Philip turned it around so Richard couldnt reach it. He got pissed and acted like he was hugging Phil and grabbed the tie from behind him and pulled it back around. Then he tried to untie it with one hand. He also looks as if he wants to talk. He moves his lips but his jaw is wired shut. Phil explained to him very slowly that he had hurt his mouth and he couldnt talk. Phil said we will tell you when you can talk okay? and Richard shook his head Yes! When we left he was resting comfortably (assisted by meds of course).
Becky also just called me and was so excited. She said that she was holding Christie's hand and told her that she was gonna get in bed with her and watch TV. She said Christie moved her thumb. The nurse said it was probably just a reflex so they put Christies hand on a pillow and said Christie if you want to watch TV move your thumb. She moved it again. I am at a loss for words. God is good! Mom and Dave are going home tomorrow so Ill keep everyone posted on this. My cell phone bill is going to be atrocious so Im going to try and stay off it. Talk to everyone tomorrow.

My name is Julia and I'm a good friend of Christie's. I am so pleased to hear that Christie is responding to pain and moving her thumb. Also I am so very happy to hear that Richard is awake and moving. I haven't stopped praying and God is with you all. I hope they both keep getting better. Can't wait to hear more good news! We keep praying and crying for her at school. Good luck. God Bless! Love you Christie!! BFF Julia

Only God could have pulled this one off. To God be the glory. Great things He has done. This is the first real signs that Christie has shown that she is still in there.
I am the happiest Mamaw in the world tonight.
You go Christie. I love you.
Love,
Mamaw

I can't type how ecstatic I am that Christie has shown brain activity. This is truly grand news. All of her friends will be looking forward to more progress.

I'm not sure if you remember me, but I'm the red haired girl, Donnelle, who lived with Christie and Richard for about six months at the begining of the school year.

It wasn't until just this week that I heard the news, as devistating as it was, and I want you to know that they are always in my thoughts. They are wonderful people with beautiful souls, and in no way deserved any of this.

Please, keep us posted. I live in zepherhills now, and my only link to thier progress is through this site. Richard was a wonderful man and father, thoughful enough to take me in for months when my family was down just becasue it was the right thing...

and Christie is one of the best frineds I have ever had, one of the few people I can be myself with. There need to be more like her in this world, and I will hope evey day that she is not taken from us.

You have no idea how happy today this post makes me, knowing that theres even a small chance we may get her back. Please, any news, even bad is apreciated. Not knowing is by far the worst.

Angie, thank you so much for posting these updates for everyone! Michael/Albert sends me emails frequently and calls me all the time to talk to me, and tell me what is going on, but its so nice to read and feel your excitement in their recovery progress. You all will forever be in my thoughts and prayers. You have always been the kindest of families to me. If you can access Richard's email, I've been continuing to send him funny emails I get from friends and family so that throughout his recovery, and after, he may have something humorous to entertain him. Maybe you could find them and read some of those to him for me... or at the very least, give him a HUGE hug for me! :0)
Thanks again.
Love and prayers,
Stefanie (VA)

Hi there... this is Kristie, I'm a coworker of Phil's and I have Richard and Christie's ferrets that were in the car accident with them. Please let them know that the ferrets are safe and sound here, and that I wish them the best of luck with their recovery. I'm glad I could help, even if it's just ferret-sitting. :-)

What wonderful news. Even though it may seem like a small thing, for Christie it is huge. I inow God is able to bring her through this. Our thoughts and prayers are with Becky, Lee, Mary and Billy. We love all of you. We are glad Richard is making progress also.

I didn't know something so simple as moving a thumb could make me so happy! Hopefully Christie, you only improve from here ^^

I miss you and can't wait to see you again so please get better real soon (besides, who else do I have to protect me from Ichi's wrath?! lol)

I am also very pleased to here of Richard's improvements. I have not met him formally, but I know that Christie really loves him, and I am hopeing for his full recovery as well ^^
